CHIROPRACTIC ADJUSTMENT

Chiropractic medicine is a profession based on the relationship between the structure of the spine and the function of the nervous system. If abnormal joint motion exists, this often creates nervous system dysfunction and sub-optimal performance. Because the nervous system controls and regulates all of the cells, tissues, and organs of the body, interference of the normal function of the nervous system can manifest itself in many ways, such as: pain, weakness, numbness, tingling, abnormal organ function, etc.

Chiropractic adjustments have tremendous potential to help patients and can make a rapid, positive response. There are many different techniques, or ways to adjust the joints of the body, and Dr. Kevin and Dr. Curt believe that each patient should be treated using the technique that is best suited for each patient.

Both Dr. Kevin and Dr. Curt are proficient in the following chiropractic adjustment techniques:
Gonstead,
Palmer Package,
 Diversified,
Thompson Drop,
Flexion/Distraction, Impulse (Instrument assisted) and Extremity adjusting.

ACUPUNCTURE

How does Acupuncture work?

Although acupuncture has been practiced for nearly 5,000 years, in the last decade research has revealed physiologic mechanisms for some of its effects.

For example, it is well documented that the stimulation of acupuncture points affects both central and peripheral nervous systems. It triggers the release of endorphins and enkephalins - chemicals that have pain-relieving properties similar to those of opiates. More recent research suggests that it may also trigger the release of certain neural hormones, including serotonin.

Many theories as to how acupuncture works have been entertained, but none by itself can explain the multiple analgesic, anti-inflammatory, sedative and regenerative effects of acupuncture.

Does Acupuncture hurt?

During an acupuncture treatment, tiny one- or two-inch needles are inserted at selected acupuncture points. Acupuncturists recognize nearly 400 of these special locations on each side of the body, and another 250 to 300 “extra-meridian” points outside the meridian lines.

Patients generally complain of little or no discomfort from the needles. A common introduction is a feeling of heaviness or numbness at the insertion sites.

What is Cupping?

When injuries occur deep in the muscle, bleeding often occurs causing deep bruises. There will also be edema in the area involving the coagulation of sticky proteins.

The combining presence of these elements usually results in stagnation of circulation to the area - resulting in pain, dysfunction, and chronic conditions.

The vacuum formed by Cupping draws up the old non-circulating stagnant blood and sticky fluids from the area, bringing them up to the surface and away from the injury so that healthy free circulation can be restored to the affected area, thus creating space for oxygen, living cells and nutrients for faster recovery.

The color and pattern of the marks depend on the level of stagnation in the area, and range from a bright red to dark purple, usually lasting 3 days to a week - sometimes longer if the person is very sick or sedentary. If there is no stagnation present, there will be only a pink marking which disappears in a few minutes to a couple of hours. Sites where there is old trauma or injury may require multiple Cupping treatments. You will find in follow up treatments the marks will be progressively lighter as the pathogens are systematically removed from the body.

Usually, the practitioner will see the greatest amount of deposits being drawn to the surface in the first few treatments - this is a good thing. The deposits will lessen in intensity as the deeper issues are resolved and the stagnation and toxins have been dredged up and flushed out via the body’s own circulatory systems.

ACTIVE RELEASE TECHNIQUE®

Active Release Technique® (often referred to as A-R-T) is rapidly becoming the treatment of choice for athletic and repetitive stress injuries. Myofascial adhesions often develop following either a specific traumatic event to muscle and or soft tissue, or through repetitive damage to these tissues over time. As myofascial adhesions develop, if left untreated, they can lead to: painful muscle tissue, “entrapment” of peripheral nerves or blood vessels, or alteration of the normal biomechanics of the spine and extremities. Since muscles, ligaments and tendons stabilize joints, myofascial adhesions can cause less flexibility in these structures and alter normal joint biomechanics. This can lead to other structures becoming over-used and injured, as they have to compensate for the primary injury. It is important to treat the underlying cause first and then the compensation so that normal biomechanics and joint motion can be restored.

Some of the common conditions that Dr. Kevin and Dr. Curt treat with Active Release Technique® are:

  • Carpal Tunnel Syndrome
  • Iliotibial Band Syndrome
  • “Runner’s Knee”
  • Tennis Elbow/Golfer’s Elbow
  • Plantar Fasciitis
  • Tension Headaches
  • Chronic low back pain
  • Frozen Shoulder
  • Rotator Cuff Injury

FAKTR

What is FAKTR?

FAKTR (pronounced FACTOR) is a concept, not a technique. The acronym stands for Functional and Kinetic Treatment with Rehab. Approximately 9 years ago, Greg Doerr, DC and Tom Hyde, DC began to experiment with treating soft tissue/fascial disorders through the use of instruments. Both Greg and Tom trained in a variety of soft tissue techniques including instrument assisted soft tissue mobilization (IASTM) and decided to incorporate their previous training into a concept that included function and treatment of the kinetic chain while utilizing various forms of rehabilitation at the same time. They also incorporated treatment in the position of provocation (pain, loss of range of motion, feeling of tightness within the fascia/soft tissues) and during motion. FAKTR incorporates all of the above variations to evaluate and treat soft tissue/fascial conditions. These concepts are quick to apply, easy to grasp and produce rapid results.

KINESIO TAPING®

Kinesio Taping® Method is a definitive rehabilitative taping technique that is designed to facilitate the body’s natural healing process while providing support and stability to muscles and joints without restricting the body’s range of motion as well as providing extended soft tissue manipulation to prolong the benefits of manual therapy administered within the clinical setting. Latex-free and wearable for days at a time, Kinesio® Tex Tape is safe for populations ranging from pediatric to geriatric, and successfully treats a variety of orthopedic, neuromuscular, neurological and other medical conditions.

The Kinesio® Taping Method is a therapeutic taping technique not only offering your patient the support they are looking for, but also rehabilitating the affected condition as well. By targeting different receptors within the somatosensory system, Kinesio® Tex Tape alleviates pain and facilitates lymphatic drainage by microscopically lifting the skin. This lifting affect forms convolutions in the skin thus increasing interstitial space and allowing for a decrease in inflammation of the affected areas.

The above information was taken directly from the Kinesio Taping Website.

ERCHONIA LOW LEVEL LASER THERAPY

Low Level Laser Therapy (Cold Laser) is a tool that emits a “non-hot” beam of laser light. The laser light will not be felt during a treatment because the laser at 5 mw of power is not strong enough to create undesirable tissue heating or cell vibration. Short of shining it in your eyes it is completely safe. We use Erchonia’s PL5000 in their class of 3LT ® lasers to help speed up the healing rate of body tissues and decrease pain. We have found success in treating many conditions including:

  • Sprains/Strains
  • Chronic Tendonitis
  • Plantar Fasciitis
  • DeQuervain’s Tenosynovitis
  • Low Back Pain/Neck Pain
  • Neurological conditions

FUNCTIONAL REHABILITATION

Functional rehabilitation and stabilization of injured joints is imperative for proper healing and to lessen the chances of re-injury. Specific sports therapy rehabilitation involving stretching shortened muscles and strengthening weak muscles is a component of each patient’s treatment protocol. You will be taught exercises in the office that you can easily do at home so that you can maintain your health after your injury has resolved.

SPORTS INJURY REHABILITATION

At InHealth we know that getting a patient back to full health means more than just getting them out of pain, they need to regain full function. Many times getting the patient out of pain is the easy part. We offer a state-of-the-art rehabilitation room at our facility to help the patient regain full strength and flexibility so that they can perform at their best. We offer individual and small group functional training classes to help you stay active, healthy and recover quickly.
